The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath - I would've never considered fanfic about this book, which is a really old favorite of mine from high school. But since I saw it nominated I started thinking about plots and ideas came blooming right up!
I want to know how Esther's life turned out after she left the hospital. It doesn't have to follow or reflect what happened to the real Sylvia - we know that Esther does have a child and seems to be happy when the book finds her after her release. Does her depression ever return? Does she go back to college? Which job did she pick, or did she end up doing a lot of elements of the jobs she was interested in trying out (lots of room for a five things fic there!)? Who did she marry, if anyone? How does she react to the events of the sixties and seventies? Bonus points if she ends up a senior editor at Mademoiselle and ends up having to help out another crop of eager-eyed young things like herself.
If you don't want to write about Esther, I'd like to know what you think of Doctor Nolan. What's her inner life like? How does she feel about her job? Is she proud of helping these girls or does she find the system grinding? What's her social life like? What does her memoir read like?
You should be able to find a free PDF through the Rusty Quill blog, though I'm not sure if that's been taken down!
Esther/Joan or Esther/Dr. Nolan slash would be rather interesting and I'm not against either concept!
Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) - I love this sweet/sad little movie so much.
First of all, I'm 100 percent here for Idgie/Ruth as a couple, and if you want to slash them together I'd like anything you could come up with for the two of them! From PWP where they're just enjoying a hot summer's day (hey, further adventures in honey application could be fun) to Idgie nursing Ruth through cancer - or Ruth maybe being saved from death. The lives they might've had together in the 60s would be interesting to explore. Or if you want go for angst head-on, maybe Ruth haunts the Whistlestop and Idgie has to deal with it.
If you don't want to pair them, there's all sorts of friendly shenanigans I'd love to see! If you want to write about them individually: Ruth dealing with the aftermath of her abuse, and how she handles motherhood and running the restaurant after the trial. What if Idgie had kept the Whistlestop going in Ruth's memory? What was life like before? What did Idgie do between the death of Ruth and everything we know about her life when she hits the nursing home? (since in this version Idgie and Niny are one and the same). How did they discover their affinity for the kitchen? Idgie and Ruth COOKING. I'd love LOTS of food porn and food descriptions for this fandom! Road trips and far-away adventures would be wonderful for the two of them.

Marty (1955) I love a good romantic shaggy dog story, and Marty definitely fits that bill!
Naturally, I want more of Marty and Clara's romance. What's their next date like? Do they stick together and end up getting married? What's the wedding like (does his mother make trouble)? What kind of family do they make? Do they move? Switch careers? Adopt a pet? Go on a big vacation? Do they keep dancing together - maybe taking lessons and switching styles as they go on?
If you don't want to write about romance, take me into Marty's butcher shop! Show me how Marty's relationship with his mother changes and evolves as he moves out of the apartment and develops a life of his own. Show me Marty out for the night - happy in spite of his singleness.
Show me Clara's life. What's she like at work? Does she have any friends like Marty's gang? What's it like when they all meet?
Something had to have made Marty's mother so intensely protective of him in his youth - what was it? What sort of romantic misadventures does she have? Does her son fix her up with another nice elderly man, if only to get her out of his hair?
What made Angie so cynical about romance? Does he ever find love? Accept Marty and Clara's romance? Try to drive them apart? Get used to sharing Marty's time?
Nancy (Comic Strip)
Nothing too fancy here; I want something in the style and humor of the latest set of strips by Olivia James. Go super meta (Nancy and Sluggo try and fail to write fics in Yuletide; they try to literally give Yulegoats to their recipients) or explain how these two became friends! Have them go to the moon! The circus! The ballpark! Deal with social media! Absolutely anything, as long as it's dryly funny.

Strip Polka - The Andrews Sisters (Song)
This is such a fun little story about an ambitious girl having fun, being practical and using what she has at hand...well, so to speak!
Tell me more about Queenie - how did she get into burlesque? Who makes her costumes and choreographs her act - does she do it herself? Does she encourage other girls' talents? Does she meet a man who tempts her away from the bright lights or does she stick resolutely to her plan? What's her life on the circuit? What does she do when the clubs give way to raunchier stripfests? Is she really good at or cut out for farming at all? What does she grow?

I loved the colorful, over the top nature of Tanky's adventures, and I want to see what she and Jet Girl get up to after the movie!
Show me Tank Girl's childhood, show me how she learned to adapt to the Wasteland. How does she feel about the free-roaming but unstable world she lives in?
Jet Girl and how she continues to develop post-canon. Adventures in mechanics!
I'm 100 percent here for all of the TG/JG! PWP! Domestic partnership in a post-apocalyptic world! All of the now-I'm-a-mutant-do-you-still-love-me fic!
