Yuletide 2015
Oct. 27th, 2015 02:56 amBack for another round! My likes and dislikes haven't changed much since Last year's letter, so here's a link to it!
Blossom (TV): My favorite show as a kid! I related far too well to her, and I loved her friendship with Six - I'd love to see them in college or as adults, still being buddies.
We leave Blossom at such an awkward, uncertain time - what was it like going to college with everything in flux that way? Does Blossom still video tape herself speaking about her life experiences? (in a way, she was a v-logger before v-loggers were cool - and speaking of, does the internet change those habits of hers?) . I can imagine her kids finding her old tapes and putting them online, accidentally turning her into a mini Buzzfeed viral craze for awhile ("90s teen was so wise!")
I want to know who Six became. I want to know if she manages to find love, or if she and Blossom stayed close.
Joey may be seen as brainless, but he's got a kind soul - I want to know who he became when he grew up too.
Or show me a mid-show or missing episode scene featuring all three kids!
Show me more of their childhoods? Or maybe plunk me into the middle of their world as it happens in the current era. I'd just love to revisit these three and my childhood memories, if this is what we matched on.
Crimson Petal and the White (TV): I find this mini-series completely spellbinding; beautifully produced, beautifully written - a great adaption of a book that I love that doesn't sacrifice the source material's grit.
I want to know if Sugar and Sophie made it to America - and if they did, what did they do there? Does William ever find them? Or do they manage to find safety somewhere? Does Sugar shield Sophie from the sometimes-dangerous world that America can be? Does Sophie ever find out that Sugar took her from her father as she grows up - or does she even care? I'd really love to see who she becomes as a grown-up.
Does Agnes find safety? Did she survive - truly, after all? What was she like as a youth, before this - we see that through her diaries, through Williams' eyes, but I want ever more to see her through her own.
Do Agnes and Sugar ever meet again? Do Sophie and Agnes?
Here's the Whole series!
Mermaids (1990) My forever-favorite movie! I love everything from the setting to the complicated relationship between Rachel, Kate and Charlotte.
What was Rachel and Charlotte's relationship like when Charlotte was Kate's age? Was it easier when she knew less, understood less? How does it change when Charlotte reaches adulthood? Do they stay close together or separate into new lives?
What does Kate think of her mother and sister? The movie mentions that she goes on to keep swimming; how does she feel about that? About the water? About her hearing impairment - does she feel bitter about her sister's leaving her off to her own devices?
What does Rachel think of her kids? How does that change as time goes on? What was she like as a teenager, as a kid? What's she like now that she's older?
What does Lou feel about Rachel? About the kids? About the way their relationship changes - does he move in? Marry her? Deal with the headaches of being a stepdad well?
I'd like anything from fluffy silly mother-and-daughter fun to serious character introspection - anything you can think up!
Muriel's Wedding (1994) Another lovely film; I relate so much to Muriel, her worries and her insecurities. I want to see who she ended up being down the line; do things go as usual with her and Rhonda? Are things complicated? Now that she's been married and found it's not the fairy fantasy she dreamed of - what does she dream about? Obsess over? Is the Mariel part of her gone for good?
Rhonda has to deal with her diagnosis, and I imagine she does it with aplomb now that she and Muriel are free; who does she become? How do they live?
How did they originally meet? How does a girl like Rhonda fall in with people like Muriel's group of friends?
I equally enjoy Muriel and Rhonda as friends and ship them, so if you want to write slash I'd love to read it!
Scarlet's Walk (Tori Amos) Scarlet is both a metaphor for America and a traveler through her lands; she journeys the world, her heart broken, dabbling in darkness and eventually emerging into the light, secured by motherhood - something of a reflection of Tori's own emergence into motherhood. We know that eventually she ends up on the East Coast in post-9/11 America, raising a daughter. Give me some missing scenes from her travels; show me her as a mother. Give me something of her and her lovers. Demystify her -or mystify her more. Show me her world -does she ever travel again? Does she stay where she is? Does the domesticity enlighten or choke her?
Valerie (song) - Amy Winehouse So Valarie and the narrator have broken up; she's out there still on the lamb, trying to find a man to fix it for her and trying not to catch a tan (IE get caught by the cops). What sort of criminal activity does she get up to? Why are she and the narrator estranged? Is the narrator's body a mess because they've been in rehab? Jail? Is there actual hope for a reunion? Give me the before and the after.
