Yuletide 2023
Oct. 17th, 2023 10:43 pmMy Interests have not changed, but my prompts have! I'm PineapplePrincess on AO3, and treating should be enabled. I'm open to any content at all from any attendant Yuletide challenges, but am signing up for Yuleporn, Three Turtle Doves and Wrapping Paper this year!
I'm doing a lot of repeat fandoms this year, but these are movies and tv shows and books I really love and would die to see more fic for.
Playing God (2021)
This is my extremely rare longshot fandom this year, and I don't know how many bites it will get, but it's a lot of fun and a quick view and has Alan Tudyk and Michael McKean in it. It has a million unhealthy relationship dynamics going on (and some healthy ones!) and a lot of fun ways to approach the material.
It's an independent film about orphaned twin conpeople, Rachel and Micha, who are forever getting by via stealing. A mark of Micha's catches up with them, and now they have to pull a big con to make back double the $100,000 Micha stole from this person. They decide to target a grieving millionaire named Ben, who has crumbled in the wake of the tragic death of his daughter. Ben is on a never-ending quest to find God, and the twins promise Ben they can personally introduce Him to him - for a price. The twins turn to their mentor, the recently-paroled from jail and now working at a skating rink Frank, to literally play God. As Rachel wavers on her commitment to the con after making an emotional connection with one of her marks, Micha harbors a secret - and they both rely on Frank to help them keep things together.
There's so much I want from this movie ficwise. Show me Frank teaching baby Micha and Rachel how to con. Give me Frank's roller rink adventures. Give me Rachel's first Christmas with Ben, to which Frank invites himself or is invited (does Frank/Ben somehow ensue). Heavenly visitations happen - for real. Rachel trying to earn an honest living without conning. Micha learning to live without his twin. Ben trying to learn how to parent an adult Rachel. Give me sticky, thorny family interactions!
Slumber Party Massacre II (1988)
Did I ask for worldbuilding for this? You'd better believe I asked for worldbuilding for this. How does the Driller Killer even work?! Is he the form of Courtney's repressed sexual id? Is he trying to keep Courtney from having sex because he knows something worse will happen, or does he want her for himself? And if he does, WHY does he? Is he some greaser who died before he could Go All The Way and thus haunts the dreams of teenagers to make sure no one else can? Help me figure this man out.
Did Courtney survive the end of the movie at all? Is she in a mental hospital for real now? Is she in Matt's arms? Did she dream the whole thing? An alternate tack: she persues music and what is that like for her? And yes, I'm here for Driller Killer/18+ Courtney having a fucked up relationship/sexual relationship. Make them a murder couple. Anything!
The whole movie is streaming for free On Tubi and On Pluto with ads throughout the Yuletide season for those who haven't seen the film.
The Monkees (TV)
I'm here for everything from mass shipping these boys to simply, canon-typical adventures and frolic. Bend reality like the show did - take them all the way into the future if you like. Feel free to break the boys out of those narrative boxes and go for it.
If you don't want to watch the show entire, I have deliberately selected my favorite on-shot character, Milly Rudnick. I have a deep, deep fondness for the episode "Monkee Mother" and the way Milly interacts with the boys, becoming a pesky mom figure to all four of them. A story about her sticking around and continuing to influence their lives over the years would be fabulous. PLEASE do include Davy if you like him and don't mind, I ran out of room for requestable characters and would be happy to have him be a major part of the story.
A Muppet Family Christmas (1987)
This has been my favorite Christmas special since I was a very little girl, and I watch the unexpunged version every year. Nearly every single part of Jim Henson's legacy becomes involved, and that in of itself is touching.
Some ensemble pieces would be great; I want to know what Christmas morning looks like! What other presents have yet to be opened? What do wheat germ and cranberry sauce dinner leftovers even look like?
I need to know further details about Piggy's long journey from her photo shoot to Emily's farm. Have her encounter Emily later, or have a conversation with Doc; does she meet up with any of the characters she meets during the celebration later on, and what do they think of each other?
Emily Bear backstory, please! I need to know everything about what she was like when she (and Fozzie!) were younger. I want to watch her engineering this whole holiday and dealing with a house that is jam-packed with her son's friends and acquaintances.
Poor Doc was looking forward to some peace and quiet but instead he ends up finding some friendship. Do these bonds last after Christmas? What other gifts is he given?
Gonzo doesn't get to do a whole lot, but I'd like to see him having more fun and being his weirdest and ebst self!
Due to music rights issues, this one's long been out of print and isn't available legally streaming for free anywhere, so I'm offering a youtube link above. This is the complete broadcast without any of the segments missing, as they were in the official VHS release.
Moonlighting (TV)
Ahh, my beloved, patter-heavy dramady. You could use a million words to describe Moonlighting, but one of those words would never ever be boring. You can twist the genre, break the fourth wall, and give me any and everything, but never, ever make David and Maddie boring! Seriously, I'd like anything from casefic to PWP to AUs to extensions of any of the show's many fantasy sequence episodes for these characters. If you want to fix the mess canon made of David and Maddie, I'm here for it. I'm also dying to see how Herbert and Agnes' marriage works out. What if Maddie hadn't miscarried? How is everyone struggling with the '20's? Bonus points for Agnes answering the phone with a rhyme or two.
The whole show's now up for streaming on Hulu.
Rhinestone (1984)
I know, I know - it's cheesy but Is still find this movie incredibly charming. I want to know how Nick and Jake's relationship might be all of these years later. What do their careers look like? Do they move or stay in New York City? A soulmate AU would be fun!
I can't find this one on legal streaming OR anywhere else. DVDs are available, however.
